Bathing Shorts
Sir, —I, a mere mortal of ordinary intelligence, and, I think, fairly decent morals, was desirous of purchasing a pair of bathing shorts because (1) They were cheaper than the full costume; (2) eminently more suitable for sunbathing; (3) looked much better than a, rolleddown costume; and (4) were quite adequate covering for men. Now, having found, at last, a retail shop selling such garments, I threw caution to the four winds and boldly pul'chased the said article. But, alas and alack! at which beach can I wear same without being molested by a custodian? If shorts are classed as an insufficient covering by our city fathers; why do they allow them to be sold to the public? If not yet classified, could you give me a list of beaches in the Wellington district where (a) I can paddle in safety in shorts or where, (b) “neck to knee” must be worn? —I am, etc., KAHUIKA. Wellington, January 30.
