TEST MATCH DEFEAT
Criticism of Wyatt Port'd Spain, January 29. The critics, in reviewing the result of the second cricket Test, M.C.C. v. West Indies, are blaming Wyatt for putting in the West Indies, and also for sending in weaker bats after the first wicket down when faced with a big total. Wyatt explains that he put his opponents in because a matting wicket remains the same throughout, and consequently there is no advantage in batting first. He adds that the batting ordbr was altered with a view to taking off the shine from the ball without risking valuable wickets. If the move had been successful it would have enabled the team to go for the runs: if unsuccessful, the sounder batsmen would play out time.
