Butter Quieter at 88/i A. 11. Turnbull and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their principals, W. Weddel and Co., Ltd., dated London, January 29: —Both markets quieter. Butter: New Zealand, finest, BS/-; Kangaroo, finest, 87/-. Cheese. New Zealand white, 47/-; New Zealand coloured. -16/-. Trengrouse ami Nathan, Ltd., London, have sent the following market report to Joseph Nathan and Go., Ltd.—New Zealand butter. 88/- per cwt.: New Zealand cheese, white 47/6 per cwt.; coloured, 46/6 per cwt. Both markets very qtiieL The New Zealand Producers’ Cooperative Marketing Association’s weekly cabled market report from London, dated January 29, is as follows: —Butter: Market quiet. New Zealand, finest grade. 88/- to 89/-: lirst grade. ST/- to SS/-; Danish. 116/-. Cheese: Market ouiet. New Zealand, white and coloured, 47/-. IRON AND STEEL British Industry Improving A steady improvement is being shown in the British iron and steel trades, according to t lie latest issue of the British Trade Review. Recently there have been better opportunities to secure more export business in spite of currency difficulties, while quite substantial contracts have been arranged against home requirements. The booking of orders has made remarkable progress, and has been more regular. The position of British ironmasters >s now very satisfactory. as there is not the least difficulty in disposing of iron practically as soon as it becomes available from the furnaces. Stocks in makers’ hands have become negligible, and iron and steel producers generally have sullieient work on hand to keep.them busy for some time. COUPON TRADING Cost of Terminating Interestin'- comment on the effects of coupon trading was made by Lord Reading, chairman of Carreras, Limited, tobacco manufacturers, at the annua! meeting of the company. Some wellknown brands had suffered, and some had gained considerably by the termination ”of coupon trading. In referring to the charge of £297.965 in the accounts, representing the total cost of terminatin', the coupon trading, he explained that when n system of this inaen'tilde was ended suddenly it left liabilities in respect of unredeemed coupons issued,'losses on -ills in slock which became ttnuseable, "nd commitments in respect of gifts purchased for future delivery.
Moonlight Extended A decision to go into liquidation Ims been reached by shareholders of the Moonlight Extended Gold Sluicing Co., Lid., of Auckland.
