Substantial Circuit Debt Liquidated The quarterly meeting of Trinity Jlethodist Church was held on Monday night, the Rev. W. Bramwell Scott presiding. Votes of condolence were passed to the families of the late Mesdaines Baillie and Chinchen. The'balance-sheet, presented by Mr. J. A Martin, showed that the heavy circuit debt had been liquidated, and, although there was a deficiency 6n the quarter just closed, the credit balance stood at £B5/17/-. This was largely due to the Mayoral contest effort. ' The meeting recorded its thanks to those who had helped to make that effort so successful. Mr. Martin stressed the necessity of endeavouring to make the income balance the expenditure each quarter. Mr. C. S. Green reported that the Home and Foreign 3lission efforts-for the year had closed, and had resulted in an income of just on £lOO when the women's auxiliary effort was included. Messrs. J. A. Martin and W. Btnet Brown, M.A., were elected circuit stewards for the ensuing year. Several spoke of the devoted work that they had carried out during the past year. Mrs. Bramwell Scott was elected the representative to the conference in Dunedin. and will accompany the minister and Mr. S T. Martin, the other representatives. . Messrs. W. Bine(j Brown and H. XV. Smith were elected members of the district executive. Much time was devoted to a discussion upon the plans for the year’s work, and it was arranged to hold a congregational social on February 7. The harvest thanksgiving services were’ fixed for March 17 and 19. The choir was thanked for its services, special mention being made of the work of the conductor. Mr. IV. .McClellan. It was decided to entertain the choir at a social on a date to be fixed. Ou the motion of the circuit stewards, leave of absence was granted the Rev. W. Bramwell Scott from February 11 to 3liireh 9, in order to allow him to preach the opening sermons of the new church at Kaiapoi. and to attend the conference. Gratification was expressed at the greatly improved appearance of the interior of Trinity Chinch, and suggestions | for the improvement of the conduct of I service were remitted to a committee, I which will, report back to the Best quarterly meeting, 1
