4 . Veteran Bowlers’ Day ror oowlers there is no especial terror in Shakespeare’s three-score and ten span of human life. This was shown at the Wellington Bowling Club’s green yesterday afternoon when 32 rinks of bowlers, all 70 years of age and over, took part in the veterans’ day tournament, under the auspices of the Wellington Bowling Centre. In honour of the occasion the pavilion was gaily decorated with streamers of minting. The tournament is peculiar to the age of the bowlers. There is mvsection play; the winning rink is the one which wins its game by the greatest number ef points. The tournament was formally opened by the president of the centre, Mr. W. 'Gilbert, who extended a very hearty welcome to the veterans and visitors. He was glad, he said, to see a strong muster of veterans, and hoped he would see them all again next year. Mr. Gilbert, referred to those bowlers who had died during the year, and said he was pleased that Father Time’s reaping had been a light one. The president then called upon the oldest bowler present, Mr. Thomas Mills (of the Johnsonville club) to throw the silver kitty. - Mr. Mills, who is 93 years of age, found a good length. The honour of putting up the first bowl devolved on Mr. Samuel Roberts (of the Newtown club), who celebrate! his ninetieth birthday on Saturday last. The winners were Laker’s (Victoria club) rink, who beat V. Dimock’s (Wellington club) rink, 35-10. The runners-up were the Thorndon club’s rink, skipped by G, Johnson. Results of Games.
