“LUCKY NUMBER”

£2OOO Prize Goes South ART UNION DRAWN I | Petone Trio Win £2OO I To an anonymous ticket-holder in Christchurch goes £2OOO, first prize in the “My Lucky Number” art union, I which was drawn in the Wellington Town Hall concert chamber yesterday. The ticket bore .the nom de plume, “Shift.” J. Wilson, Te Puke, gets the second prize, £5OO, and an “Unlucky I Trio,” of Petoue, represents Wellington district in the big money by gaining the third prize, £2OO. . “Final Shot,” Hokitika, has gained the £lOO prize; “Oneviro,” Ellerslie, the £5O, and “Four Leaf Clover,” Thames, and “White Horses,” Blenheim, the two prizes of £25 each. The 20 prizes of £lO and the 180 of £5 are widely distributed in both islands, although probably with fewer than usual in Wellington district. . , . As in previous art unions the majority of tickets bore initials or noins de plume. Some of them were highly expressive either of hope, such as •'Our Turn, or "Win at Last,” which many appear to think possess some occult quality, or in the other extreme of pessimism, such as the “Mugs,” “Another Dumbbell,” or the wistful "Wish it Was.” The crowd that gathered in the Concert chamber to watcli the drawing seemed to find most amusement iu the cryptic “Coates’s Corner. The draw was begun at ») a.in. and occupied a little over three and a halt hours. Although it was performed at a fast pace, ebnsidering the usual fairly large number of unsold tickets drawn, it was stilted yesterday that at the drawing of the next art union a new system will be adopted which will reduce the time considerably. The draw was conducted by Messrs. N. McArthur and B. L. ITgmniond. Mr. L. A. Furlong represented the Internal Affairs Department- and Sergeant J. Carmody the police. The results of the draw are as follow. First Prize, 412000. C 93947 “Shift,” Christchurch. Second Prize, 42500. 899252, J. Wilson, Te Puke. Third Prize, 42200. A9ISIO “Unlucky Trio," Petone.
