October-January 15 Shipments DECREASE IN LAMB In tin- shipments of meat during the period October 1-January 15.1934-35, lamb and frozen beef show decreases, and mutton, pork, chilled beef and boneless b<’(f substantial increases, compared with thfigures for the corresponding period of his; season. There were 9697 quarters of chilled beef shipped during the period, against 1308 quarters for that of the previous year, an increase of 8389. The quantity of boneless beef shipped was 87,347 bags, compared with 42,213 bags, an increase of 45,134. Shipments from New Zealand to the United Kingdom for the first half of January were: Carcases mutton, 17,277 ; carcases lamb, 179,506; quarters beef (frozen), 952; quarters beef (chilled), 2008; carcases pork, 13,419; bags boneless beef, 28. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board is advised by cable from its Loudon office that the shipments from Australia and South America to the United Kingdom during the first half of January were as follow : — Australia: Carcases mutton, 24,560; earcases lamb, 21,474; quartet's beef. 4822. South America: Carcases mutton, 3212; carcases lamb, 121,271; quarters beef (frozen), 936; quarters beef (chilled), 204.353. Auckland, January 29. Tlie continuation of the dry and hot weather is compelling farmers to use more milling offals. Both millers and merchants report a keen demand for both pollard and bran. So far supplies have been adequate for requirements, hut prices are firm, and merchants are now asking £7/2/6 per ton for Australian pollard. ° All cereal markets are firm, ami the price of maize lias advanced 2d. to 4/4 per bushel. The companies which have operated in tlie last two or three yearn have proved the payable quality of the ore and tlie pernistence of the lode system. and profiting by this experience the Bendigo Company has decided to establish rm'up-to-date battery and operate on a major scale. As a result of development work to date a fair weight of stone is at grans, and assays have proved the richness of the ore over a promising lino of reef.
