Ministerial. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Finance, who has been with his Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester in North Auckland, will confer with representative business men in .Auckland to-morrow regarding the proposed legislation dealing with mortgage finance. The Minister will return to “Wellington toward the end of this week. The Hon. C. E. Macmillan, Minister of Agriculture, will leave Wellington to-morrow for Levin, where lie will attend the agricultural and pastoral show. He will go on to Marton for a similar purpose on Thursday, thence to the Raglan district on Friday. He will return to Wellington next Monday. The Hon. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Justice, returned to Wellington yesterday from Levin. Major-General Sir Andrew Russell, Hastings, was a passenger from Wellington last evening for the south. Bishop Sadlier, formerly Bishop of Nelson, recently underwent an operation for appendicitis in England, and, according to advice received in Nelson, his condition is causing some anxiety. Mr. IT. 11. Sterling, chairman of the Railways Board, was a passenger from Wellington for the south last evening. Dr. E. Kidson, director of the Government Meteorological Office, returned to Wellington by the Marama from Sydney yesterday morning. Dr. Kidson has been attending the congress of the New Zealand and Australian Association for the Advancement of Science, which took place in Melbourne. Lieutenant-Commander H. A. Rhind, of the Canterbury Division of the New Zealand Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, has been placed on the retired list with permission to retain his rank and wear -the prescribed uniform. Mr. 11. Pettit, Wellington, left for the south last evening. Mr, R. O. Bathurst. Ashburton, is in Wellington on holiday. Mr. F. IT. Great left Wellington last evening for the south. Mr. 11. A. Bown, Hataitai. left for the south last evening. Mr. J. W. Fergie. of the Railway Department, left Wellington last evening for the South Island. Messrs. J. Sutherland Ross and J. Evans, of Ross and Glendining, left Wellington for the south last evening. Mr. W. Russell-Wood, Dunedin, after spending six weeks in Auckland, Waikato and the Wairarapa, left for the south last evening. Mr. G. E. King, Christchurch, has been re-elected president of the Canterbury Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association. Mr. J. Burns, chairman of the Reserves Committee of the Wellington City'Council, has returned from a holiday visit to Auckland and Lake Taupo. Mr. G. M. Wilson, late superintendent of motive power for the Carudian National Railways, arrived ai Wellington on a holiday visit to the Dominion by the Marama from Sydney yesterday morning. Mr. H. G. Cook, organist und choirmaster at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, Kilbirnie, lias received intimation that he has been awarded tlie degree of Bachelor of Music by the University of New Zealand. Mr. G. E. Archey, director of the Auckland War Memorial Museum, returned to Wellington by the Marama from Sydney yesterday. Mr. Archey attended the congress of the New Zealand and Australian Assoc.’ition for the Advancement of Science, which was held in Melbourne. The Rev. C. S. Matthews who has resigned from the charge of the Palmerston North Baptist Chur?h, will sail for England by the Rangltikei on March 15. Mr. Matthews in/omls to be away from - New Zealand fo- at least 12 months, lie has been in charge of the Palmerston North Baptist Church for the past six years.
