The Island Bay Life-saving and Sort Club held an ocean race of approximately 880 yards on Sunday afternoon, oyer a triangular course, at Island Bay. Starting on the beach near the club pavilion, club members swam to a mark near the island, thence to a buoy at the southern end of the beach, finishing with a 200vard stretch to the diving pier. The event, a handicap race, is an annual fixture toi the Ricketts Cup, and also counts in the points aggregate for the club’s Bilderbeck trophy. The race resulted as follows : —A. Clarke (handicap 4min.; actual time 16 min. 6sec.), 1; A. Dawson (4min. ; 17.4). 2; G. Perry (2min.; 17.6). 3. E. Burton secured fastest, time, 15.27. The first distance, 100yds., toward the club beltman’s championship, was also decided. For this event each entrant, wearing the rescue belt, was timed from a mark on the beach to a buoy floating at 100yds. Results were: A. Herron (time Imin. 25 3-10 sec.), 1; E. Burton i 1.26) 2; J. White (1.31 3-10). 3. The sealed handicap (for Bilderbeck Cup series) held in connection with this event resulted: —E. Burton (4sec.), 1; JWhite (9), 2; A. Herron (scr.), 3. To complete the beltman's championship, a similar contest will be held over 150yds., on a date to be decided.
