POST OFFICE OPENED
Hon. A. Hamilton at Taumarunul By Telegraph.—Press Association. Tauniarunui, January 25. The new Tauniarunui post office, erected at a cost of £14,500, was opened officially to-day by the Pos-.tmaster-Generai, Hon. A. Hamilton. The day was gloriously fine, and a crowd of 2000 watched the ceremony. The first Post office was established at Tauniarunui in ISSS. After the opening ceremony Mr. Hamilton dispatched the first telegram from the new building to the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. G. IV. Forbes. Instancing the remarkable growth of the postal business at Tauniarunui, Mr. Hamilton quoted figures showing that in 1005 letters and other posted matter totalled 33.575, and in 1933 577,433. Savings Bank deposits over the same period were respectively £3BlO and £54,895.
