RENOWN’S COLLISION WITH HOOD
Naval Ratings’ Version GLANCING BLOW STRUCK AMIDSHIPS By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received January 27, 7.20 p.m.) Gibraltar, January 26. H.M.S. Hood and Renown have arrived. Naval ratings declare that the collision was due to the Renown allegedly not receiving sufficiently early the Hood’s signal to form a line, resulting iu the Renown, travelling IS knots, striking the Hood a glancing blow amidships. Although the engines were reversed, a second impact occurred as the vessels swung clear. They also stated that the Renown’s rani is two feet out of alignment, probably indicating extensive damage below the waterline. Divers are inspecting the battleships.
