SPECTACULAR FIRE
Damage to Felimongery By Telegraph.—-Press Association Invercargill, January 27. Damage to buildings estimated at £3OOO was done when a spectacular fire, visible for many miles, destroyed part of the fellmougery at the Southland Frozen Aleut Company’s works at Makarewa, late on Saturday night. The outbreak was discovered by a fireman who was on duty in an adjoining boiler house. A volunteer brigade of company employees effected a good save by preventing the fire spreading to the boiler house and tallow storage room, which is to the east of the fellmongery, and the wool room, to the west. The parapet walls also helped to confine the outbreak. It is not yet possible to assess the damage to the plant and stock.
