MERCANTILE LEAGUE CRICKET
State Fire’s Narrow Escape BANKS IN GOOD FORM With six games left to complete the A grade championship in the Wellington Mercantile Cricket League's ehnmpionship series, State Fire still hold the lead, lu their game with Overseas Shipping, tbev had a narrow escape, as Shipping were in forceful form, and at stumps were but eleven runs behind, with three wickets in hand. If State Fire can avoid defeat in the remaining games they seem certain of championship honours, as competition between the next three teams, Cowans Smith and Smiths and Roseneath is very even. J. Banks revealed his best form ot the season in scoring a very free 97 for Overseas Shipping, while C. Wynne, of Customs. McKenzie of State Fire, and J. Brooks of Cowans, all returned excellent all-round performances. . , The following table shows the positions of the various teams: — Wins. Games. Ch.
