LARGE AREA SWEPT

Marlborough Grass Fires By Telegraph—Press Association. Blenheim, January 26. A grass fire, which started through the destruction of a washhouse at Mr. 11. Rutland’s sheep station at Ope Campbell yesterday afternoon, burned throughout the night, sweeping 3000 acres of pastoral country belonging to Mr. Rutland and Mr. J. MeConway. A high wind helped the Hames and nearly 100 men worked till 4 o’clock this morning to extinguish them. Losses of stock are considerable, but no details are available.
