COLLISION AT SEA
Steamer Sinks in Half an Hour SHIP OF 8000 TONS All Aboard Believed to Have Been Saved By 'Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received January 25, 10.10 p.m.) New York, January 25. The steamer Mohawk, of c OOO tons, under charter to the Ward Line, collided with the Norwegian nntor ship Talisman off Seagirt, New Jersey, tonight, and sank in half an hour after the 53 passengers and crew of 107 had left the vessel in lifeboats. It is believed that all were rescued by the Talisman and two other vessels. The Mohawk was the property of the Clyde Line, and was normally In the New York-Texas service. It was making its first New York-Hava ua-Mexico trip for the Ward Line to replace the Havana, which ran aground at Nassau The scene of to-night’s crash was near where the Morro Castle, also a War liner, was burned. The Talisman. which was en route to Bahia, Brazil, suffered littie damage. .Steamship officials are unable to explain how the collision occurred. WARSHIPS COLLIDE Slight Damage to Hood and Renown (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, January 24. The Admiralty announces that H.M.S. Hood and H.M.S. Renown were in collision about noon yesterday during exercises off the coast of Spain. Slight structural damage was sustained by both ships. There was no injury to the personnel. Both vessels are proceeding to Gibraltar in accordance with the programme.
