OBITUARY

Sir Langer Owen (Received January 25, 8.20 p.m.) Sydney, Januarj’ 25. The dentil has occurred at the age of 73 of Sir Langer Owen, who retired from the Supreme Court Bench of New South Wales in June, 1932, and who was also a former judge of the Equity Court. He was twice married, liis second wife being a daughter of Sir Frederick Chapman. Wellington. Sir Langer Owen called at Wellington recently on hid way back from a visit to Great Britain, and wa.s then not in good health. He was a son of Sir William Owen, a former judge of the Supreme Court of New South 'Vales Mr. C. F. R. Bell (Received Januarj’ 26, 12.14 a.m.) Sydney, Januarj’ 2(1. The death has occurred of Mr. Charles Frederick Robert Bell, a promising young journalist on the staff of the “Sydney Morning Herald,” at the age of 33. He was the youngest son of Mr. Robert Bell, managing-director of the “Ashburton Guardian” and “Timaru Post,” and a native of Timarii. After leaving Oxford he began his journalistic training on the “Liverpool Post.” Later he received an appointment to the “Sydney Morning Herald” as cable editor.

He became ill four years ago and entered a sanatorium at. Springwood in the Blue Mountains, since when, although bedridden most of the time, he had consistently done work, mainly book reviewing, for the “Herald.” He was held in great esteem by his press colleagues.
