Feilding Sale A BUOYANT TONE Dominion Special Service. Feilding, January 25. A buoyant tone was in evidence at the stock sale with a yarding of over 20,000 sheep and lambs. There was an extraordinary attendance of interested buyers, who showed keen enterprise, and prices for all classes of sheep showed a firm market, with good sales throughout. Fat sheep were very firm at previous rates, lambs slightly higher, and ewes steady at the higher level reached last week. A very keen demand existed for store lambs, good rape lambs being up by 1/-. a head, and other lambs up 6d. Prices for breeding ewes showed a hardening tendency, with practically a total clearance of the offering. The quality of ths store wethers yarded was not very good, but they sold readily at previous rates. The fat cattle offered were of better quality than at recent sales, with better prices resulting. Best ox beef reached 22/- per 1001 b., and best heifer beef 17/6. There were small yardings of store and dairy cows. Sheep sold well at Wright, Steiphenson and Co., Ltd.’s Carterton sale to-day, and values were above vendors’ expectations. The sale for enll lambs was especially good. HAWKE’S BAY RAM FAIR Inferior Sorts Easier By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hastings, January 25. Values for stud Romney and Southdown rams at r lu- Hawke’s Bay ram fair to-day were on a par with last year’s for quality sires, nith a slack demand for inferior sorts, many of which were passed in. The top Southdown price was 42 guineas, obtained for two shearling rams bred by AV. I’. Gimblett, Hastings, A. C. Vile. Bulls, making to 36 guineas. J. E. Hewitt, Mangamairc, Pahiatua, realised the top price, 30 guineas, for Romneys. Flock Southdown rams were down one halt to one guinea . according to quality. The supply was in excess of the demand, and there were many passings. Mr. Gimblett got the top price of 7J guineas; E. Badger, Whakaronga. realised 64 guineas; also I*. Bissett. Pahiatua. Local breeders were represented to a greater extent in the flock Southdowns than with the flock Romneys, in which Manawatu and Wairarapa breeders sold most of the entries.
