INKLING’S ADVENTURES

—Drawn by Annette Strickland.

Hallo everybody—here we are again. There is a decided coolness in the air at present between Penwiper and us (me and the Blots). The other day we were sitting at the table, not feeling a bit like work, and dreaming of out holiday. "Fishing,” murmured Horace Blot; "Boating.” sighed Oscar, and I said "Swimming” very longingly.

Old Penwiper heard us and felt very jealous. He never has holidays. We teased him a bit about being a stay-at-home, and he was simply furious. He foamed at the mouth and spluttered and muttered: "I’ll show you.” He crejt away and bought two big

fish at the fishmonger’s; carried them upstairs to our bed and put them inside: then he filled a large sponge with water, put that in too, took the electric light cord from the switch, got under the bed and waited silently for a while like a crafty old spider in his den.

Before very long we came up, found the light wouldn’t go and so in we hopped to bed in the dark. Pen-, wiper began bumping up and down; the sponge squirted water in all directions. "Ouch,” I screamed, as I felt the slippery fish. Penwiper put back the cord and turned the light on quickly; then he got behind the bed and laughed. “Teach you to swank about your holidays,” he grinned. But we’ll pay hint out, you see.
