• Julian—Harlen The wedding took place at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, Kilbirnie, recently of Ruby (Cis), elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Harlen, Over toun Terrace, Hataitai, and Richard, eldest son of Mrs. Julian, also of Overtoun Terrace. The officiating minister was the Rev. Mr, Orange. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a gown of shell-pink mariette, cut on slim lines, with flared skirt and a cowl neckline. She carried a bouquet of carnations and maidenhair, the flowers being a delicate shade of pink. The bridesmaid, Miss Doris Harlen, sister of the (bride, wore a dainty frock of figured silk moss crepe with cream background. Her bouquet was of salmon pink carnations and pansies. Mr. James Bolland was best man. On leaving the church, the bride was presented with a silver horseshoe decorated with lemon carnations, by little Noeleine Henderson. A reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents, when personal friends and relatives of the bridal couple were present. Mrs. F. G. Harlen received the guests, wearing a smart navy figured marocain frock, and was assisted by Mrs. Julian, mother of the bridegroom, who wore a charming grey ensemble relieved by touches of red. #» * . Burgess—Attwood A very quiet wedding at which only relations were present was solemnised at St. Chad’s Church, St. John’s Hill, Wanganui, on Wednesday, when Zoe, daughter ef Mr. and Mrs. Attwood, Wanganui, was married to Guy, youngest son of Mr. A. S. Burgess, and the late Mrs. Burgess., The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Lawrence. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a smart ensemble of blue, with natural straw hat, and carried a bouquet of water lilies. Their future home will be at Wanganui. * * Warring—Cressweil The wedding took place on Tuesday, at Knox Church, Dannevirke, of Marjorie Ethel, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Cresswell, Dannevirke, and George Donald, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Warring, Wellington. The Rev. A. Stevenson officiated, and Miss Thorburn presided at the organ. The bride, who entered the church with her brother, Mr. L. K. Cresswell, wore a lovely gown of orchid pink angelskin lace, cut on classical lines, the soft eowl neck and long tight sleeves being trimmed with pleated georgette, while godets of georgette with tiny pleated frills gave width to the slightly trained skirt. Her veil was of embroidered tulle, and her bouquet of pink gladioli and maidenhair fern. She was attended by Miss Maisie Wilkins, Dannevirke, whose graceful gown of nil green needle-run lace was slightly trained, and who carried a bouquet of pink begonias and maidenhair fern. Mr. H. W. Warring, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. After the ceremony a reception was ,hekl in the De Luxe tea rooms. Mrs. Cresswell, mother of the bride, wore an ensemble of navy bine and white, and her posy was of pom-pom dahlias in sunset shades. The bridegroom’s mother, Mrs. ’Warring, wore a gown of black georgette and lace, with black hat, and carried a posy of rich roses. When Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Warring left, the bride was wearing a smart ensemble of fawn and brown with skin shoes and handbag. , Their future home will he at Wellington. RED CROSS DAY Preparations are well in hand for the holding of Red Cross Day, which takes place on Thursday, January 31. A strong committee has been set up to carry through arrangements, and at meetings recently held stands and conveners were appointed. Many of the leading shopkeepers have undertaken to make appropriate window displays during the week leading up to the day. It is expected that the appeal should augment the finance of the centre and enable it to maintain and develop the good work which ■ is being done.
