Many Cases Dealt With A variety of police and summons cases was heard before Air. E. Page, 5.51., in the Alagistrate’s Court, AVellington, yesterday. Lewis Jacobsen, aged 20. was fined £2 for fishing foP trout or perch without a license, on information laid by the AA’eilington Acclimatisation Society. A ranger found him fishing in Lake Domain, uear Featherston. Air. G. C. Kent, for defendant, who pleaded guilty, explained that the young man was on holiday, and had foolishly succumbed to the temptation to use a rod. He had not done it previously, aud had caught no fish on this occasion. For making an unprovoked assault on Antonia Alfonso, a fireman, James Cavanagh, aged 36. was fined £2. SeniorSergeant D. J. O’Neill said a constable had seen defendant at about 10 o’clock on Thursday night kicking Alfonso at the corner of Afanners and Taranaki Streets for no apparent reason other than that the man had refused him a cigarette. Cavanagh had a long list of previous convictions. Alyrtle Roberts, for failing to>elose her shop at the required hour, was fined £2 and £l. An inspector said defendant bad given a lot of trouble. Sophia AlcDonald was fined £2 for a similar offence. For having been found on licensed premises after hours. Jeremiah O’Sullivan was fined £2. The case of AVilliam Charlton, cluii'ii-i with entering licensed premises while prohibited, and with procuring liquor while prohibited, was held over for later decision.
