SPORTS AT THE BASIN
To-night’s Attractive Programme A most attractive programme will be presented at the sports meeting to be held at the Basin Reserve to-night. There should be keen competition for the shield, which is at present held by Pctone, and Masterton and the Olympic club will make a bold bid for it. Among the special events will be a race between a cyclist and a runner. In this, Pennington, Wellington’s best sprint cyclist, will endeavour to outpace Fitzsimmons, who came second at the last New Zealand championship meeting, over 100 yards. A noveltv cycle race, in which a “penny-farthing” machine will bb seen in action, should occasion merriment. The half-mile flat race, in which J. S. Watt, the Oxford University Blue and ex-Auckland champidn, will be opposed by such well-known performers ns W. Ogg (Wellington champion) and Hack (the Masterton crack), should provide a thrilling finish. The sprinters include J. Hamilton, Crooks, Pye, and Badland. The first event will start at 7.30 p.m.
