Canon AV. S. Bean, who has been visiting AVellington, left last evening for Christchurch.

Dr. T. G. Gray, Director-General of Mental Hospitals, and Dr. J. Russell, of the Mental Hospital Department, left Wellington last evening for the south.

Dr. W. Williams, president of tlie University of Missouri, who visited New Zealand last year and gave many interesting lectures on journalism, has decided to relinquish the presidency of his university to make way for a younger man. He will, however, resume his duties as Dean of the University School of Journalism, which he founded in 1908. Dr. Williams is aged 70. Mr. Chunhow 11. Pao, the ConsulGeneral for China in Jjew Zealand, is to leave Wellington on February 8. He will be accompanied by his wife and family. Mr. Feng Wang, who is coming from Johannesburg to succeed Mr. Pao, is not-due till some time later. In the meantime the duties of ConsulGeneral will be carried out by Mr. Yue Jackson, who has acted as chief aide to so many of the Chinese consuls here.

Mr. M. Van Staveren was a passenger for the north last evening. Mr, C. Sander returned to Wellington yesterday from the south. Mr. 11. F. Nichol!, Christchurch, who has been visiting Wellington, left last evening for the south.

Mr. .L W. Card and Miss Card, Featherston, who have been visiting Wellington, have returned to their home. Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., has been appointed a member of the licensing committees for the districts of Napier. Hawke’s Bay and Waipawa.

The Rev. F. B. Redgrave, vicar of St. Barnabas’ Church, Fendalton, has returned to Christchurch after spending ten months in Great Britain and the Irish Free State.

Mr. F. H. Bakewell is at present an inmate of a Wellington private hospital. At last evening’s meeting of the Vieto. ia College Council the members expressed regret at his illness and hope for his early recovery. Mr. 11. C. Trim has been appointed to succeed Mr. Owen Pritchard as programme organiser for radio station 2YA. Mr. Trim has been connected with radio work since 1920, his first experience being with the 50-watt station of the original Broadcasting Company which used to operate from the old “Dominion” building on Plimmer’s steps. In 1927 he was appointed programme organiser to '2YA. Three years later he wa.s transferred to Auckland, and in May last he returned to the head office. Mr. Trevor Fisher, the Wellington pianist, has returned from the Continent to establish himself in London. While ho was in Austria he studied under Friedrich Wuhrer and Marie Soldat. (herself a pupil of Joachim and Brahms). Since going to England. Mr. Fisher has played in Chamber Concerts at The Deanery, Winchester (a very musical Cathedral City), Chi Chester, St. Albans, East Grinstead, Alton, and Bury St. Edmunds, as well as in Loudon, says the “New Zealand News.”
