FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.
Unsettled and squally; improvement following. Following is the weather report and forecast issued by tlie Meteorological Office, Wellington, for 24 hours ending 4 p.m. to-day:— A deep depression was crossing the Dominion yesterday, while an anti-cyclone was moving from eastern Australia on to the Tasman Sen. A cyclone was located between the Fiji and New Hebrides Islands. Forecast: Westerly winds north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, backing to southwesterly; elsewhere southerly, moderate to strong winds and of gale force at places, but decreasing to-day. Heavy seas ou the west coast north of Greymouth; elsewhere in New Zealand waters rough. Strong but decreasing south-westerly winds in the eastern Tasman Sea. Seas rough. Weather unsettled and squally, will: rain in most districts and hail on parts of the east coast; a rapid improvement, however, following the southerly change. Temperatures becoming cooler. Rainfall at "The Dominion" Building for 24 hours ended midnight last night: .06 inches. Rainfall for January : 2.07 inches. Shade temperature at "The Dominion” Building during >4 hours ended at midnight last night: Maximum, 72 degrees; minimum. 62 degrees.
