ACCIDENT VERDICT

Death of Lorry-driver Palmerston North, January 24. A verdict of accidental death was returned by the District Coroner, Mr. E. Goodbehere, at an inquest at Kimbolton on Percy Herbert Halford, a single man, aged 27 years, who met his death when a lorry which he was driving went over a bank at Peep o’ Day on Tuesday while it was passing another vehicle. Arthur Myers, the driver of the car the lorry was passing, said he met Halford’s lorry on a bend about eight miles from Kimbolton. He pulled over to his left to give the lorrv ample room and noticed that the lorry wheels were skidding as if the brakes were being applied. The lorry passed the car and skidded into a post on the left-hand side of the road. After remaining on the balance for a second or two the lorry toppled over the bank. When the lorry came to a standstill, witness saw the driver crawl out of the cab and place both his hands on his head. Corroborative evidence was given by Mrs. Myers, wife of the former witness. The coroner, in returning his verdict, added that no blame was attachable to Myert*.
