WOMEN’S CRICKET

Canterbury Aspirations If Canterbury gets its way, New Zealand will .be represented against the English women’s cricket team almost wholly by Canterbury players, as the selectors, Misses A. Scott, 1. Grant, and Mr. FWoods have nominated no fewer than seven players for inclusion in the New Zealand team. They are: R. Symons, M. Marks, J. Webster, V. Belworthy, S. Gainer, M. Norman, and P. Taylor. The various associations throughout New Zealand have been asked to nominate players, and from these the New Zealand team to meet the English girls at Christchurch on February 16 and 18 will be chosen. . ■ While the nomination of seven Canterbury players may cause some surprise (remarks “The Press”), it is quite likely that Canterbury will have a good representation in the New Zealand team. The Canterbury Ladies’ Cricket Association is making arrangements to billet the English .girls, and will meet the visitors at Lyttelton, and take them by motor over the Port Hills. The Wellmgtop Match. It was reported at a meeting of the Wellington Ladies’ Cricket Association this week that the English touring team would arrive in Wellington by motor-car from Wanganui on February 4, and after playing the match with Wellington the next day would leave for the south that night. During their stay the English players will be the guests of the Wellington association at the Grand Hotel. At the request of the visitors no official receptions will take place. It was decided to send a Wellington team to Wanganui late in February to compete for the Amalgamated Theatres Shield. An application from the Technical Old Girls’ club to send their first eleven to compete also was refused, as a Wellington representative team was being sent. The Wellington uniform will be white gym-frock, white shirt blouse, white cap, and white tennis sox, with the W.L.C.A. badge in yellow and black on the gymfrock and cap. Fixtures for To-morrow. The following are the fixtures for tomorrow's games:— Senior: Wesley v. College 0.G., Tanera Crescent; Swifts v. T.O.G. A, Emerson S-trcet 1; Karori v. Y.W.C.A., Nairn Street 2.
