The Wellington Cricket Association last ni);ht decided that the Canterbury association should be asked to agree to the annual Brabin Shield contest being held on February 18 and 19. An interesting instance of American “gb-getterness” is gratefully vouched for by a Dunedin resident who had occasion recently to throw himself on the mercy of the United States postal authorities in respect of the discovery of a sister who left Dunedin to take up residence in America many years ago. With no address to offer as a guide, nor even the haziest indication us to where in that wide continent his sister and her husband went to live, the searcher wrote to the chief postmaster at San Francisco, to whom he was a total stranger, tjnd asked him if at y useful inquiries could be made. The postmaster immediately set to work and made inquiries in every .direction to such excellent effect that he was able to advise his unknown correspondent by return mail that he had 'o'-ated his sister and forwarded to her rhe letter which had been left in his charge. The incident may be said to illustrate the obliging character of the po.Ta] official and the efficiency of the service of which he is a member.
