The "Daily Telegraph’s” naval correspondent says that it. is officially con- . firmed that Germany has now built, or is building', five pocket battleships, together with five cruisers, ata total cost of £31,000,000. This is double the cost per ton of British naval construction due to electric welding, and the use' of superfine materials to save weight. All live have six 11-inch guns ami eight six-inch guns, but in the later ships steam turbines with high pressure boilers replace the Diesel engines of the first ships.
