CADETS IN CAMP
St. John Ambulance Brigade at Paekakariki PROFICIENCY BADGES WON A large number of boys of the St. John Ambulance Brigade cadet divisions iu Wellington spent a very pleasant aud instructive four days in camp at Paekakariki School from Saturday until yesterday inclusive. The damp, which was under the command of Cadet Officer S. I. Rockell, assisted by Mr. L. G. Poynter, was the first to be held and was a success from every point of view, and although the syllabus may have been rather full, ample opportunity was afforded for recreation. The instructional programme was devoted mainly to first aid, stretcher drill, physical drill, and lectures in connection with the various cadet proficiency badges. On Sunday the damp was open to visitors, many parents of the boys and friends availing themselves of the opportunity to visit it and watch the sports which were in progress. Mr. W. W. Dutton, District Superintendent, accompanied by Mr. F. D. Elvines, Corps Officer in charge of cadets, paid an official visit of inspection to the camp yesterday morning, and conducted an examination of .the cadets in two of the Proficiency Badge examinations, the results of which were:— Knowledge of Order: C. R. Langford (excellent pass) ; T. P. Baron and K. Mcßain (passed with credit) ; F. J. Steer, C. Metcalfe, R. Urry, F. Rogers, W. Brown, B. Morton, M. Flanagan and F. O’Connell. Public Service Badge: K. Ritson, K. Harteley, R. W. Langford, C. R. Langford, F. J. Steer, L. Goetzlof, I. D. Rust, F. Rogers, W. Brown, B. Morton, I. Flanagan, K. Mcßain, C. Metcalfe. R. Urry, T. P. Baron. * Mr. Dutton took the opportunity of congratulating the cadets, not only on .their fine discipline in camp, but also on the manner in which they appeared on parade, and on the results of the examinations. Mr. Elvines said that he was very much impressed with the reports he had received, and there was every possibility of the camps being held cadi year. He congratulated Mr. Rockell on the very satisfactory manner in which the camp was carried out. The results of the sports programme, points for which count toward the Cadet Camp Shield, are as follow: — Cadets under 12, handicap race: K. McBain (Miramar), 1; It. Urry (Hataitai), 2; G. Brown (Miramar), 3. Cadets under 15, handicap' race: I. Flanagan (Miramar), 1; K. Itilson (Wellington), 2: F. Steer (Wellington), 3. Open handicap race: C. Metcalfe (Hataitai), 1; K. Bitson (Wellington) and F. Bogers (Miramar), 2, equal. Steeplechase, senior: C. Metcalfe (Hataitai), 1: F. Bogers (Miramar), 2; T. Baron (Hataitai). 3. Steeplechase, junior: I. Flanagan (Miramar). 1; F. Steer (Wellington), 2; It. Urry (Hataitai). 3. Hop, step and jump: K. Bitson (Wellington), 1: L. Goetzlof (Wellington), 2; C. Metcalfe (Hataitai), 3. Long jump: K. Bitson (Wellington), 1; L. Goetzlof (Wellington), 2; C. Metcalfe (Hataitai). 3. Swimming race: F. O’Connell (Wellington), 1; K. Mcßain (Miramar), 2; K. Bitson (Wellington), 3.
