BOOKMAKER FINED
“Doing Very Little Lately” Pleading guilty to a charge of carrying on the business of u bookmaker, Thomae Fisher was fined £3O and costs and allowed one mouth in which to pay by Mr. E. Page, S M„ In the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, yesterday. Detective-Sergeant T Y. Hall said that since 1932 accused had been consistently lotting In th.-: Foresters’ Arms Hotel. On Monday with Detective Hayhurst the Detective-Sergeant had seen accused, Who admitted ho had been betting, but had being doing very little lately. A search Of his house showed that 14 doubles had been taken on tho Trentbam meeting. “I understand he was at one time in a pretty big way but lias fallen on lean times,” said Mr. Hall. For accused Mr. J. A. Scott said he was in a fairly considerable way about three years ago, but was now practically on the rocks and not in very good health. “I understand he is straight as far as commercial dealings go,” said Mr. Scott.
