The practical wisdom of the greyhound was amply demonstrated during one of the races at the meeting conducted by the Auckland Greyhound Speed Club at Carlaw Park at the week-end. There is a particularly sharp bend in the track and, finding that the mechanical hare was too far away, some of the dogs endeavoured to catch it by jumping the wire-netting fence and cutting across the corner. Their efforts were thwarted, however, by an official who prevented them from leaping the opposite fence and the dogs were disqualified from the race.
