Smugglers Try to Recover Seized Cattle (Received January 21. 10.35 p.m.) Belfast, January 21. Many shots were exchanged in a midnight battle at Clogber. near the Free State border, when 10 masked smugglers attempted to recapture 100 cattie which Customs officials had seized and impounded. Tlie raiders wore rounding up rhe cattle and disturbed the guards The shooting stampeded the cattle, upon which the raiders lied across tlie border Squads of Customs officers and police were called out, but were too late, except to round up the animals again.
