HOBSONVILLE AIR BASE
New Hangar to be Erected The erection of a. second landplane hangar at the Royal New Zealand Air Force Base, Hobsonville, Auckland, has been approved by the Government. The contract for tlie work lias been given to the Fletcher Construction Company, Ltd., as the successful tenderer. The Minister of Defence, Hon. J. G. Cobbe, stated yesterday that the mam dimensions of the new hangar would be: Length, 125 feet; width, 86 feet. The building would be provided with canopy doors to qpen along the full length of the hangttr, giving a doorway clearance of 20 feet in height. The foundations, floor and walls would be of reinforced concrete. Steelframed windows on each side wall of the structure, with skylighting from the roof down the middle of tlie building, would provide adequate lighting. The roof structure would be of steel, to be covered with corrugated asbestos sheets. An annexe along one end of the inaiu building would provide accommodation for flight store, workshop, armoury, pilots’ dressingroom, and flight commander’s office. “The erection of this new hangar for the Auckland Air Base is part of tlie defence development plan decided on by the Government (luring last year,” the Minister said. 1 “The muchneeded additional hangars fit Hobsoih vilie and Wigram require to be put up ready for tlie new Air Force machines now arriving in the Dominion.”
