Edinburgh Exhibition Perhaps the two outstanding features in the 41st Exhibition of the Society of Scottish Artists, which took place at Edinburgh last month, were the prominence of women’s work ami the pictures by Paul Klee and Picasso exhibited for the first time in Scotland, says an English exchange. Women members of the society have equal status with men. and are well represented on its hanging and selecting committee. Embroidery work of distinction was prominently displayed. AVomen exhibitors were also represented by stained glass cartoons, illuminations. handweaving and fabrics, and theatrical designs. Among the many examples of painting in the modern manner, work by women artists had a place with the best pictures in the show. In the room devoted to sculpture an outstanding exhibit was Eric Gill's sketch in .stone for bis statue of Prospero and Ariel, which adorns Broadcasting House. There was an interesting selection of work in the modern manner by Scots sculptors. Scottish modernist painters were well represented, nolabl.v the president of the Society, Mr AVilliam Mu? taggart, and Messrs. Maelachlan Milne. Gillies. Maxwell, AVestwater. Moodie. and Cowie. The members of the Royal Scottish Academy contributed largely to the exhibition. Miss Mary (Molly) Plimmer. daughter of Mrs. Charles Plimmer, Wellington, j.s u passenger from London by the Rangitiki, which is due at AVellington about the middle of next: month. Miss Plimmer has been residing in London for the last three years. Formerly she was a member of the National Repertory Theatre movement in AVellingtom and for a time was connected with the professional stage in England. CARTER’S WOOL SHOPS.
