CLASS YACHTING

Championship Retained By Lyttelton By Telegraph. —Press Association. Christchurch, January 20. By winning the fifth race of the series' at Lyttelton on Saturday, Lyttelton retained the Z Class Yachting Championship Cup which the port crew won last year. Lyttelton won the second, third and fifth races. Paremata won the first race and ' Wellington the fourth. Wellington was also placed second on three occasions. The morning race on Saturday was started on a light north-east wind and a calm sea, but the race was called off at the expiration of the time limit. At that time Paremata had a lead of a full length of the course over the next boat, Lyttelton. The afternoon race was started in a light breeze and calm sea, but the wind freshened later. Lyttelton led at the end of the-first round and held the lead right through the race and Wellington likewise held second place throughout the race. The finishing times were: Lyttelton, 5.5.13; Wellington, 5.9.12; Paremata, 5.13.19; Timaru, 5.15.9; Otago, 5.15.25; Plimmerton, 5.17.19; Christchurch, 5.18.50.
