One of the effects of the dry wather in Auckland and the province has been a general appearance of brown rot in stone fruit. Peaches, apricots and nectarines are particularly susceptible, and beyond spraying at tiie right time, which holds the disease in check, there is no real remedy. As peaches ripen the rot appears, and although there may be some sound fruit on a tree, other branches may be badly affected. It is expected that the stone fruit season this year will be shorter than usual.
