PRIZES FOR ARTISTS

Awards in Australia (Received January IS, 8.5 p.m.) Sydney, January 18. The Archibald Prize for 1934, the blue riband of portrait painting in Australia, has been awarded to H. A. Hanke for a self portrait study. The ■Wynne Art Prize for the best landscape painting of Australian scenery, or the best example of figure sculpture, was won by Elioth Gruner with an oil painting of the Murrumbidgee Ranges. It is expected that the Archibald Prize will be worth £350 this year, and the Wynne Prize about £4O.
