WANGANUI WOOL SALE
Further Reports from Brokers Further reports from brokers on Thursday’s Wanganui wool sale are as follow’:— DALGETY AND COMPANY. The quality and condition of the wools offered was medium, the majority of the clips being unclassed and unskirted, state Dalgety and Co., in their report. It was very noticeable the keen competition that took place for the better-class lots which had been carefully got up for sale. Under present market conditions buyers are discriminating between skirted aud unskirted parcels and it is disappointing to see some really good wools absolutely spoilt by faulty get-up. Bradford buyers were well in the market and lifted a heavy weight of top-making crossbreds, one large firm securing at auction 4250 bales. Orders were in the. market for Japan but generally the wools were hardly suitable for that trade and only a small buy is recorded. Local mills operated freely on the few lots that suited their requirements and as usual France was well in the market for line fleece wools and the better-class of skirtings. A fair amount was bought by Germany—about 1200 bales. Growers met the market fairly freely, the clearance at auction being about SO per cent. The market can be quoted fully firm on last Napier and Wellington sales. At limes the few lots of super style crossbreds submitted were disposed of in sellers’ favour, and good free lambs were inclined to be a little dearer. Low and seedy top-making sorts were a little erratic aud at times showed an easier tendency-. Both old and new seed was -in evidence. We had very few super lots in our catalogue, our best price being 9d for the well-known HOUSE brand hoggets, and Sd for the’ewes. We also made 9d for the HEART brand hoggets a/c Mr. L, R. Hamilton. Our binned wools commanded keen competition, as also did the interlotted wools. Out of our catalogue of 2000 bales we sold 82 per cent, at auction. Following are some of our principal realisations. Ltd., report that the main operating force was Bradford, with Germany buying very sparingly, both in fleece and pieces; French buyers bid freely on skirtings, and bn some of the finest crossbred fleece wools. American competition was in evidence to some extent on superior crossbred wools. Possibly some purchases were made on Japanese account, and local mills competed for some of the best lines of lambs’ wool. Few of the clips offered were free of seed, arid owing to the dry season many lots showed both old and this year’s seed, which undoubtedly affected the prices realised, and many lots were both seed/ and unskirted. Some very bright parcels of lambs were offered, and these came in for spirited competition, and realised very satisfactory figures. Under the hammer we quitted 66 per cent, of our catalogue, which consisted of 1574- bales, and we quote below some of the prices realised:—• MP/Glenroy, HAA Sd., WAA 7ld„ WA 7d„ EA 7d.. lambs A Old;: EMcG/Mangara, HAA Sd., WAA 7id., ewes A Gid., lambs A 10d.; J in diamond, lIAAA 9d., HAA 7Jd., HA 71d., Down cross hogget lOld., AAA Sid., WAA GJd., ewes AA 7d., WA. Prices were fully firm on recent sales in other centres, report Freeman R. Jackson. A good majiy clips opened up in fairly crood condition, but the bulk of the wool was touched with seed. A big proportion of our offering was reclassed in store, and this is decidedly to the growers’ advantage in a market where buyers are keen on even counts and working on strictly defined limits. Our best price was lid. for a super line of 56’s, Corriedale, bred by Mr. C. C. Baldwin, Wangaehu, and bought by Messrs. Ross and Glendlning Ltd. “A” wool in the same clip made 10d. and necks 9d. G «fc S/Koiro, the clip grown by Messrs. Hope Gibbons and Sons and reclassed in store, opened up in excellent condition. The AA hogget made Sd. and BB hogget 7ld. Messrs. Wyley Bros., Fordell, Romney hogget made up to Bd. A super Hue of 4S's Romney on behalf of Mr. H. W. Smith, Marton, made Sid. and 7d. This clip was reclassed by us. Inzevar Romney, grown by Mr. R. S. Lilburn. Mangamahu, made up to Sd., and Drysdale clip from Sir. J. D. Lilburn, Hunterville, sold up to Sid. for AAH. We consider the sale a fairly satisfactory one and fully up to London parity.
