Use of Pontoon Defended By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, January 17. Tbe Auckland Swimming Centre’s scheme to decide the New Zealand championship dives from a pontoon moored in the Auckland .harbour was _ defended against criticism made re"cently by the southern centres at the centre’s meeting to-night It was stated the centre was convinced the scheme was practicable. In its opinion diving contests could be conducted satisfactorily thus, particularly as the centre would have the co-operation of the Auckland Harbour Board. There was no possibility of the arrangements suffering in comparison with those adopted for any previous national meeting. Further, it was made clear that the centre had every confidence in the sub-committee entrusted with making arrangements, as its members were backed by years of experience.
