A Oft. hammerhead shark was caught after nearly an hour’s light by a New Plymouth fishing launch, aight miles off New Plymouth, on Wednesday. The shark weighed 4501 b, The fishermen first saw it swimming on the surface, snatching fish off their lines as- they were pulled up, and they put out a 320 z. line, heavily hooked. A hook caught in a wing of the peculiarly-shaped head of the shark, which broached, dived and circled the boat in frantic efforts to escape. It was towed into port and lifted by a crane. It is the biggest of the species ever caught iu Taranaki waters, where the type is rarely seen.
