WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 1935, AT CASTLEROCK, LUMSDEN. /AWING to the Subdivision and sale ot 'J Castlerock Station, the- Trustees in the Estate late T. L. Barnhill, Castlerock, Lumsden, Southland, have decided to disperse the famous Castlerock Romney Stud, Klock No. 172, N.Z.K.MJ3. — one of the oldest and most successful studs ot Romney Sheep in New Zealand. On the occasion of the 1933 New Zealand Royal Show at Invercargill, the stud won signal honours, including the Championship, Romney Cup and Shield, with a mature rani; Reserve Champion and first and second in four-tooth rams; and the Cooper McDougall and Robertson Cup for the Best Sheep of Any Breed at the Royal Show. The Stud, in which a number of New Zealand Royal and many other noted champions have been bred and used, has been continued under the one management for the past thirty years. The sheep represent the very best New Zealand type, both for carcase and wool, and, being bred at a fairly high altitude, and in an environment where they are annually subjected to severe winter and snow conditions, are certain to thrive exceptionally well if transferred to heavier country or a warmer environment. The flock has been heavily culled annually,• and is recommended as one of the BEST ROMNEY STUDS SUBMITTED TO AUOTTON IN THE HISTORY OF STUD BOOK BREEDING IN NEW ZEALAND. STEPHENSON AND CO., LTD., Stud Stock Salesmen. Invercargill, Wellington and LIVE STOCK. JJISPOSAL OF SURPLUS STOCK -L’ FROM MARLBOROUGH SOUNDS. A few facts for the consideration of farmers having surplus stock to dispose of? The' Wanganui District price level is usually, higher than Island. As an instance fat lamb schedule is now 7Jd. per lb„ fat wethers 24/ r per head and average fat ewes 14/6, -buyers paying transit-charges from fa-rm. ■■ FREIGHT and WHARFAGE is only 2/3 per head. Fordell Saleyards are only a few miles from the Wharf. No yard fees arc charged ; the Yards .are' owned by the Company. Sales are held every Tuesday. Fordell is the best market in the North Island for wethers and lambs, especially small lambs, as a result of competition from dairy fanners of Taranaki. At the last two Fordell Sales Sounds sheep have topped the market. Sounds sheep do well in these districts. We do not recommend consigning of sheeping showing half-bred unless growers are prepared, zo pay an extra shilling per'head (o send them on to Raetihi where there is a demand for finer wool'ed sheep. The. officer controlling the live stock operations at Wangainii Branch, Mr. A. J. Parris, knows most of the Sounds sheep and an approximate idea of the prices likely to be realised for any line can be given if full particulars are forwarded to us by letter, telegram, or after hours to PHONE NO. 3425. WANGANUI. At present our prices appear to be fully as high as Canterbury while transit charges are very much ’ess N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE AGENCY CO.. LTD., WANGANUI.
