Plans For Departure of Duke OFFICIAL FAREWELLS Private Visit to North Auckland | By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, January 17. Arrangements for the departure of the Duke of Gloucester from Lyttelton on Monday night at the conclusion of the oliicial part of bis New Zealand tour have been completed The formalities will occupy nearly an hour. Farewell of most members of the New Zealand official party which accompanied him on the tour will be taken by his Royal Highness at his hotel in Christchurch, aud the official farewells will be carried out on the Lyttelton wharf in the reverse order to the procedure followed at rhe wharf reception at Wellington on December 15. Those participating will be the Mayor of Lyttelton, 'lie chairman of the harbour board, the Under-Secretarv for Internal Affairs, Mr. Malcom Eraser, the Minister in attendance, Hon. J. A. Young, the Prime Minister. Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, and the Minister of Finance, Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates. The Duke will embark on the Australia at 6.40 pan., and as the Royal Standard is broken from the cruiser’s masthead the sloop Leith from an anchorage outside the harbour will fire a Royal salute. The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe. arrives at 6.45 pan., and takes leave of his Royal Highness on board the cruiser, going ashore a quarter of an hour later. At 7.15 the Australia leaves the wharf, and as the cruiser passes the outer mote a Royal salute will be fired by the shore battery. The Duke’s visit to the far north will be purely of a private character, and there will be no public receptions. To-day the Duke paid a visit to Sir Hugh Acland’s property at Mount Peel, which lasted until the late afternoon, his Royal Highness arriving back at Longbeach at 6.30 pan. The total driving distance is 98 miles. The Duke intends to spend to-morrow with his host, Mr. J. 11. Grigg, at the Longbeach estate.
