CRUISE TO THE SOUNDS
One of the features of a steamer cruise is that it gives easy and luxurious access to places hard to get to in the ordinary course of travel. Such a one is Port Hardy, on the northern or more remote end of D’Urville Island, itself rather off the beaten track. This placid harbour will be the first port of call on a Marlborough Sounds cruise by the Marama, leaving Wellington on Monday, January 28. and for the one day its aloofness will be disturbed by merry parties of holi-day-makers. Other out-of-the way places visited will be Ship Cove, one of the love best spots in Queen Charlotte Sound, where a landing is to be made to see the monument commemorating Captain Cook's several visits; and Tennyson Inlet, the show part of Pelorus Sound, with its wealth of virgin bush, while more frequented surroundings will be found in the Grove Arm of Queen Charlotte Sound and in Kenepuru Sound. There will be plenty of enteramment on the cruise—boating, bathing, fishing, deck games, talkies, dancing, and other amusements, culminating in a fancy dress ball in Tennyson Inlet on the final night. The Marama will leave the wharf at Wellington at 8 p.m. on January 28 and will anchor out in the harbour for two or three hours before proceeding on her way. She will arrive back at Wellington on the morning of February 1.
