Forecast: Variable winds in the far south; otherwise northerly to westerly pre- * vailing, moderate generally, but strong at places in the central districts. Seas rather rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook Strait; elsewhere in New Zealand waters moderate. ... Moderate to fresh northerly winds in the eastern .Lasman Sea, backing later to southerlies in the southern portion; seas moderate to- rather rough. Unsettled in the western and southern districts of the South Island, with ram at times; elsewhere fair at first, but clouding over and later scattered rains likely in most districts.
