TAW A FLAT NEED

Ramp Over Railway Lines The Tawa Flat Progressive Assoeiation has for some time been endeavouring to have a ramp built over the new electric railway lines at Tawa Flat. This matter was first taken up by them in 1932. Last October a deputation of members waited upon the Slinister of Railways, and pointed out that about 30 children had to go over these tracks to and from school: also that the approach on the east side came down a steep grade, and under a very narrow subway beneath the present main trunk lines. There being a hill to the north the visibility was bad, and both children and motorists would have very little chance to stop when a train was sighted, especially the swift, silent, new electric trains that will be running on these tracks. The Railway Department advised that the expenditure for a ramp would be too great. At the monthly meeting of the association on Monday, this matter was fully discussed, and correspondence was received. This caused the members grave concern, as had been pointed out to Mr. Casey, Acting-General Manager of Railways. The association feels that the department has taken a step in the wrong direction by not granting their request. Cost, they consider, cannot be considered where life is at stake, especially the life of children.
