OILY PATCH ON OCEAN

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, January 17. A settler at Awapuni reported, to the Harbour Board the discovery of an oily patch in the sea on mile from the mouth of the Waipaoa River. It is apparently the result of an emission from the sea bed. The settler stated that during the afternoon he had heard two muffled explosions from that direction.
