VISIT TO DOMINION
English Women’s Cricket Team The English women’s cricket touring team' is due to arrive at Auckland on January 28 and arrangements for their reception are well in hand by the local association. Owing to the programme having to be sent to Australia for the visitors’ confirmation, nothing decisive has yet been arranged, many of the entertainment fixtures being tentative. On arrival the team will be received at the wharf by the officers of the Women’s Cricket Association. The Lyceum Club will be thrown open to the visitors during their short stay in the city, and at 10.30 the Mayoress, Mrs. G. Hutchison, as patroness of the association, is to give a morning tea at the Town Hall. A complimentary luncheon will be tendered the vlsiI tors by Messrs. Milne and Choyce, and , in the afternoon a scenic drive will permit them to see some of the points of vantage around the city. On the day following the match, it is proposed to hold an, informal dinner, followed by a theatre programme. The uniform of the two' teams will doubtless create much interest. Both elevens will be playing in short, white, pleated divided skirts, with shirt blouses. The Englishwomen will wear white stockings, but the Auckland players favour tennis socks instead. This will be the first occasion, too, on which Auckland women’s representative cricket colours have been worn. The Women’s Association’s colours are | a light navy tie and monogrammed cap. | WOMEN’S INSTITUTES Meeting at Ohariu There was a good attendance of members of the Ohariu Women’s Institute at the last meeting, the president being in the chair. Mrs. Beattie gave a useful demonstration on trussing a fowl. The hostesses for the day were Mesdames Monk, Kenyon, and Jacobsen. Games and competitions were the order at the children’s party, _ the mime “Humpty Dumpty” delighting both young and old. After supper the president thanked all for their help in making the party a success, especially Mr. and Mrs. Reher, the latter being presented with a bouquet. Makino. The Makino Women’s Institute held its January meeting recently, Mrs. W. Baker, vice-president, presiding. There was a good attendance of members and visitors in spite of the holiday season. A motion of sympathy was extended to the relatives of the late Mrs. L. Denner, and to the Stanway Women’s Institute in the loss of a beloved president, members standing in silence. The competition for the Feilding show was discussed; also arrangements for transport of members to the group meeting at Kimbolton next month. Mrs. S.
