* Transport Workers’ Picnic Nearly 3000 people, comprising water-' . side workers, seamen, marine cooks and stewards, and drivers, enjoyed a day in the bright sunshine at Hiitt Park yesterday, at the annual picnic of the Wellington Transport Workers. Two trains were necessary to transport the crowd, which spent a happy day. There were amusements in plenty, ranging from a merry-go-round and a Punch and Jody show for the children, to a tug-o’-war and races for the adults. A Town v. Country cricket match was held during the day, and was won by Country by nine wickets. . , , The catering was carried out by an efficient committee, and at the end of the day it was found that demand had been made for 400 gallons of soft drinks, nearly half a ton of sweets, 80 gallons, of ice cream, and 80 gallons of milk.
