PICTON EXCURSION

A full day, and a varied one, should be the lot of those who take the Wahine’s .excursion to Picton on Tuesday next, Anniversary Day, leaving Wellington at 8 o’clock in the morning and getting ■back about half past five in the afternoon. The run down Wellington harbour, across the strait, and up the smooth 'waters of Tory Channel and Queen Charlotte Sound, is no small pleasure in itself, besides which there will be a number of attractive events for excursionists to choose from after they reach Picton about 10.30 a.m. Chief among these will be the motor-boat races, of ■which the star item, the New Zealand championship speed-boat race for the Masport Cup has been purposely timed for 1 P-m. to allow the 'excursion passengers to see it There will be a special train to Blenheim after the boat arrives, returniiig before she leaves again for \v elling•toil at 2.30 p.m., besides launches or steamers to a number of the best beauty spots about the upper part of Queen Charlotte Sound, itpart from the muchimproved esplanade, with its artificial beach, there are many pretty places tor picnicking in the neighbourhood of the -town, while for the very vigorous there is a nice walk to the reservoir and back, .part of the wav being through beautiful
