Beach Attire

Sir, —I think Councils shoula cake tnis matter in hand and make it illegal for men to parade beaches in shorts. If a man wants to expose his body to the sun, I have no objection, as I used to be a sunbather myself at Lyall Bay. But we used to go into hollows in the sandhills out of sight and not parade the beach halfnaked to the annoyance of a lot of people who object to going back to the time of their loin-cloth, and causing people to stay away with loss of revenue to the trams. I, with a lady friend, went to Wanganui to go for the day to Castlecliff beach and the same thing prevailed there. You could hardly sjt down without a half-naked man siting alongside. I don’t think a decent inau would’do a thing like it, and the councils could stop it by insisting on a decent costume being worn on the beaches and putting up a high board fence for men and women if required to sunbathe behind. The charge of a small sum would defray the cost of the fence, and then they could sunbathe to their hearts’ content. There is any amount of room to erect shelters of this sort. —I am, etc., SUNBATHER. FeHding.
