Inland Drift of Population By Telegraph.—Press AssociationGisborne, January 15. The removal of the police station from Port Awanui to Tikitiki marks another stage in the general drift inland on the East Coast, the principal recent indication of which was the removal of theTuparoa Hotel and license to Te Puia Springs, The new police station will be erected at Tikitiki and probably the Court, which was formerly held at Port Awanui, will be removed to Ruatoria Port Awanui was formerly a flourishing port of the East Coast and was the main outlet for the Waiapu district, but is now almost a deserted village, nothing remaining but an hotel and one store.
